There are 36 schools in the Central region. Our schools provide teachers with meaningful opportunities to develop their skills, progress in their careers, and contribute to the Northern Territory’s public education system. Educators in this region work with a diverse student population, including Aboriginal students, students with English as an additional language, and children from remote communities. 

Teachers have access to a range of educational environments, from urban settings in Alice Springs to remote schools in Indigenous communities. Each school offers its own unique experience, fostering close connections with students and the local community.

Acacia Hill School

Acacia Hill School located in Alice Springs provides education to students from 3 to 18 years of age with an intellectual impairment or with multiple complex disabilities.

The school comprises a ‘base school’ and six satellite classes in mainstream schools in Alice Springs. The purpose of satellite classes is to support students transitioning to full participation in mainstream classes.

They have approximately 100 students enrolled at their school. Classes are small and have 5 – 9 students with a teacher and a special education support assistant.

All students have an educational adjustment plan with goals specific to each student. They use the developmental-based Victorian Curriculum, which articulates with the Australian Curriculum, and a whole school instructional model: Structured Teaching (‘TEACCH’).

Alcoota School

Alcoota School is located 150km northeast of Alice Springs in the community of Engawala and provides education to 20 students from Preschool to the Senior Years.

The population of the community is approximately 181 people. The main languages spoken are Eastern Arrente and Alyawarr. The community has a store and health clinic; and can be accessed via road – 4WD preferred. As a remote school, government employee housing and relocation assistance is provided.

They also teach to remote students from Yulara School and Alice Springs School of the Air (ASSOA) via there Interactive Distance Learning room. All classes are taught in accordance with the National Australian Curriculum.

Bradshaw Primary School

Bradshaw Primary enjoys the beautiful views of the West MacDonnell Ranges and is only a 5-minute drive from the centre of Alice Springs. With an enrolment of 500 students from Preschool to Year 6, the school strives to implement best practice pedagogy, working to embed the Science of Reading at whole school level.

By prioritising collaborative planning, teachers work in teams to develop a whole school curriculum. A Positive Behaviour Support framework underpins safe and supportive learning environments for their diverse cohort of students. They place student and teacher well-being at the forefront to create a true community feel at the school.

Larapinta Primary School

Larapinta Primary School provides education to over 300 students from Preschool to Year 6. Their grounds boast beautifully developed play areas, well-resourced teaching and learnings spaces and a progressive, friendly and supportive team who will make your teaching journey in the Red Centre the most rewarding experience yet.

The school is located on the western edge of Alice Springs, nestled at the foot of the picturesque Mount Gillen.

Nyirripi School

Nyirrpi School is part of the Central Australia Remote Schools group and provides education services to approximately 42 students from Transition to Year 6. The school is a small and remote school, with 3 teachers and a principal.

The school has a lot of support from the community and it's a great little spot to work. The teachers have created a nice little family where they are supportive and there for each other.

Papunya School

Papunya School works to empower students to become strong and proud members of their community through an emphasis on culture, tradition and language. The school offers a range of activities and programs, including traditional music and art, language classes, and sports programs. The school is part of the Tanami Group School, providing education from the Early to Middle Years. A true bilingual school, Papunya relies on its Assistant Teachers to bridge the worlds of home and school and play a vital part in the learning process.

The school is located in the community of Papunya, 250km west of Alice Springs. The population is approximately 350 and the main language spoken is Luritja.

Ross Park Primary School

Located in Alice Springs, Ross Park Primary School educates around 470 students from Preschool to Year 6, with a vibrant, inclusive community that includes 17% Aboriginal students. The school has a supportive and welcoming team, who all have a passion for helping their students achieve their best.

The teaching team works together to create a positive and challenging learning environment that fosters self-confidence, resilience and responsibility amongst our students. Their values – Be Strong – Be Fair – Be Kind – underpin all that they do.

Watiyawanu School

Watiyawanu School is located 325km west of Alice Springs in the community of Mt Liebig (also known as Amunturrngu or Watiyawanu) on the Haasts Bluff Aboriginal Land Trust. The population of the surrounding community is approximately 250 who are predominately Pintupi/Luritja with a small population of Warlpiri, Arrernte and Pitjantjatjara people.

The school is a member of the Remote Small Schools Network, supported by the Remote Schools Support Unit and caters for students from Transition to Year 12. The school caters for 50 students who are supported by 9 exceptional Teachers and Assistant Teachers.

Yuendumu School

Yuendumu School is located 290km northwest of Alice Springs, in the community is two general stores, a swimming pool, health clinic, airstrip and childcare centre. The school provides education to over 200 students from Birth to Year 12 using bilingual approaches to teaching and learning and partnering with our community to deliver education that integrates Warlpiri language and culture with the EYLF and the Australian Curriculum.
