Teach Local Scholarship – Become a Teacher in the Northern Territory
The Teach Local Scholarship is designed to create pathways to real teaching jobs for Territorians.
The NT Department of Education and Training has developed this program to support NT residents to complete an initial teacher education (ITE) degree, either undergraduate or postgraduate.
What the Scholarship Offers

A four-year program supporting up to 60 Territorians to become teachers

15 scholarships available each year over four years

$5,000 per year for the duration of your degree

Paid part-time classroom support assistant work in an NT Government (NTG) school
-
On-the-job training to build skills and confidence in the classroom

A guaranteed permanent teaching position in an NTG school on successful completion of your ITE degree, facilitated by the Entry Level Recruitment (ELR) service
This initiative means more classroom support for NT schools, helping student learning and easing teacher workloads.
Scholarship Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Teach Local Scholarship, you must:

Be a resident of the Northern Territory

Have resided in the NT for a continuous period of at least three (3) months prior to application

Provide proof of enrolment on application (SATAC 1st preference selection)

Meet the criteria set for the AO2 Classroom Support Assistant position (JD linked within the application)

Provide both a personal and professional referee
Note: You do not have to be enrolled in an accredited teaching degree before you apply. If you receive a Conditional Offer, you will later need to provide official evidence of full-time enrolment in an accredited teaching degree at CDU.
Additional Requirements
Successful applicants must:

Enrol and be commencing in a Charles Darwin University ITE undergraduate or postgraduate degree

Be starting study in the first semester following the year of your application

Study full-time for the duration of your scholarship funding (determined by the length of your degree)

Commit to teaching in an NTG school for at least two years after graduation
